「メロスさん。」誰かがメロスに話しかけました。「誰だ？」メロスは走りながら聞きました。「フィロストラトスです。セリヌンティウスの友達です。走るのをやめて下さい。もう間に合いません。セリヌンティウスを助けることはできません。」「まだ間に合う。」メロスは太陽を見ながら答えました。「やめて下さい。走るのをやめて下さい。今はあなたの命が大事です。セリヌンティウスはメロスさんを信じていました。王様にメロスは来ますと答えていました。」 「だから、走るのだ。信じられているから走るのだ。」メロスは走りました。メロスは何も考えずに走り続けました。
English Translation
“Melos,” someone spoke to Melos. “Who’s there?” Melos asked while running. “My name is Philostratus. I’m Selinuntius’s friend. Please stop running. You will already not be in time. You cannot save Selinuntius.” “I will still be in time,” Melos replied while looking at the sun. “Please stop. Please stop running. Now, your life is important. Selinuntius trusted you. He was responding to the king[‘s question], telling him that you would come.” “That’s why I will run. I will run because I’m trusted.” Melos ran. Melos continued running without thinking anything.
